Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary hands on Head of Data Engineering to lead our data infrastructure and strategy. This individual will be responsible for building, maintaining, and scaling our data pipelines and architecture, ensuring data quality, accessibility, and reliability. This is a critical leadership role that will directly impact our ability to make data-driven decisions and fuel our growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Strategy & Vision: Define and execute the long-term data engineering strategy, aligning with business objectives and growth plans.

  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

  • Architecture & Design: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines and architecture utilizing Google BigQuery as our primary data warehouse.

  • ETL/ELT Development: Oversee the development and optimization of ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources, including Shopify, marketing platforms, and other third-party applications.

  • Data Quality & Governance: Establish and enforce data quality standards, data governance policies, and best practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.

  • Platform Management: Manage and optimize our data infrastructure, including BigQuery, data integration tools, and other data-related technologies.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions that support business intelligence, reporting, and advanced analytics.

  • Performance & Optimization: Monitor data pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimizations to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to enhance our data capabilities.

  • Data Modeling: Lead the design and implementation of robust data models using tools like DBT to support analytical and reporting needs.

  • AI/ML Integration: Collaborate with data science teams to support AI/ML initiatives, providing the necessary data infrastructure and pipelines for model training and deployment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.

  • Proven experience building and scaling data platforms in an e-commerce or DTC environment.

  • Deep expertise with Google BigQuery, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.

  • Strong experience with data integration from Shopify (via API, apps, or other connectors).

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, SQL, or Java.

  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS.

  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT methodologies, and data governance.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise business language.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a data-driven mindset.

  • Experience with other data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Looker Studio, Tableau) preferred.

  • Familiarity with marketing analytics platforms and their data structures preferred.

  • Experience with data streaming technologies preferred.
